Lecture 1

DDoS Attack

Distributed Denial of Service — an attack that overwhelms systems with traffic, causing service outages.

How it works in practice

A DDoS attack targets a major cloud hosting provider, taking down thousands of websites and applications for 18 hours. E-commerce companies lose revenue, and their cyber insurance carriers face a wave of business interruption claims. If the aggregate insured losses exceed the trigger threshold on a cyber cat bond, investors begin absorbing losses.
